Insight
In 2020, established online yoga, meditation, and pilates brand Glo saw a significant increase in its subscription base as well as a rise in new competitors. As a consequence, their digital platform faced difficulties in handling the sudden surge, leading to an increase in subscription cancellations and negative app reviews.
Project
While Glo shifted their content and began addressing product issues to remain competitive, the original class card system continued to pose persistent roadblocks. Collaborating with a small cross-collaborative team of product, engineering and leadership, I lead the redesign of the class card system, resolving the core usability concerns, while also aligning the design with the brand's recent shift toward fitness and daily live classes.
Challenge
Although Glo had been taking into account user feedback to update their product, they had not conducted any user research in the past few years. Moreover, the experience of using class cards differed depending on the platform.
Discovery
As early user testing progressed, it became evident that some assumptions about how users selected classes were incorrect, presenting a valuable opportunity to enhance the overall experience.
Impact
User group testing resulted in a 35% increase in class starts and a significant reduction in the time taken to find classes.
Design
By integrating the initial insights from the single card, we secured user acceptance for the aesthetic and functional attributes of the final card system design. Leveraging this valuable feedback, we fine-tuned and improved the design of the other card types within the class card system.
Flexible
Embracing Glo’s existing color modes, we incorporated three distinct color themes into the class card system, allowing the entire experience to shift based upon time of day or preference.
Live Streaming
In 2021, using the new class card system, we successfully launched live class cards. The live cards focused on the instructor, time, and group attendance present in the class, helping further provide the experience of being part of a live group class.
